Can companies can still have a corporate party this holiday season?

Well folks, that’s about it. Yet another summer gone too soon. The only difference was that this year, we are also dealing with a pandemic, which made our summer feel even shorter. As we head in to the cold months and into the holiday season, many companies and event planners are scrambling to find alternate ways to keep that annual company party going. It may seem like a lot to take in and think about, but don’t fret. There are still ways to keep that annual holiday spirit going!

We have all heard about social distancing all year long and it’s not the time to start forgetting about it. A simple way to avoid this issue is to have smaller groups at a time enjoy themselves. The idea is that everyone will get a chance to have some fun but everyone will be safe at the same time.  Just because you can’t throw that big 300-person party doesn’t mean it’s time to forget about your employees. 

This summer has shown us all that we don’t need to be surrounded in people to be able to have some fun. Even artists have adapted and can easily deliver a safe, socially distant performance all while entertaining a crowd. Audiences have not had a chance to hear live music, watch a dance performance or even danced to a live drummer in quite some time and trust us, they have missed it dearly. It doesn’t matter where it takes place, it just matters that companies are still reminding their employees that they care.

Over the last few months we have seen everything from parking lot concerts, themed lunch/dinner parties to even backyard weddings that were more memorable than anything people could have imagined. This year has proven to be the year of “thinking outside the box”. There are plenty of ways to keep morale up and many people and companies have already started getting creative.

Another way companies are getting creative is by offering virtual events to their employees. We all have experienced a time this year where we had nothing to do but watch TV or stream content via our mobile device of choice. Why not enhance a Friday or Saturday night for everyone by hosting a series of performances online? Everything from live music to live dance can be streamed in high quality as long as participants are on a decent internet connection. With tools like Zoom, FaceTime or even Instagram and Facebook, we can now stay connected in ways that were unimaginable before. Zoom, for example, can allow up to 100 people in a single chat. That can allow people to not only watch, but also broadcast themselves for everyone to see. As humans, we are naturally social beings most people see their co-workers more than their actual families. Humanity goes a long way, even if it’s via the web.

As much as we may not like it, this is the new normal for the next little while. Instead of kicking ourselves about it, why not try and make this year’s party or corporate event the most memorable one of them all?
