Why Your Wedding Needs Live Music
Let me ask you a question, and I want you to be honest with yourself. When was the last time you watched live musicians do their thing? Better yet, when was the last time you watched live musicians perform music you know and enjoy? Maybe it was a busker in a subway station, or a friend’s band at a local venue, but I think it’s fair to say it’s something of a special treat, and that most of the time you’re listening to the radio or music off your phone.
See we live in the age of technology, where everything and anything is available at our fingertips, but it’s never a replacement for the real thing, and this is never more so the case than with live entertainment. Be it dancers, singers, a full band or just a solo artist, live entertainment’s whole purpose is to wow the audience with incredible performances.
I won’t lie to you and say this is the case with every single musician, but for the amount of time I’ve been working for Bongo & B Entertainment in Toronto and the GTA, I can definitely say it’s the case with everyone in their roster. Every artist is incredibly talented, and has spent years, in some cases decades, mastering their work for the sole purpose of being able to share it with an audience that enjoys it. These are artists who’ve dedicated their lives, gone to college or university, a few are even juno award winners- all in the pursuit of mastering their art. But how does this level of professionalism make our artists stand out?
Well for one, these are artists know how to play to a room. They can easily adapt if someone messes up the timing of the ceremony. Or if the vibe of your special day doesn’t fit the very common ‘Canon in D’ sound, our artists already know dozens if not more alternatives. Not to many can quickly learn special requests. I can guarantee it’s a much better investment than monogrammed napkins.
Ceremony aside, what do you think’s a better party starter? An empty stage playing top 40 off someone’s phone, or a group of 3-6 people already having a party up there? If there’s one thing I’ve learned from attending wedding after wedding, it’s that the dancefloor comes from a contagious energy that someone has to start. It can be awkward and forced with a bad MC and the right spotify playlist, or it can be as easy and natural as breathing if the right people are doing it. This comes in every genre you can think of- Mo-town, r&b, rock & roll, pop, soul, country, anything!
I’ll end on this note- on your special day, do you want to listen to music you’d hear in the car on the way to work, or do you want a performance you’d only see on your special day and have it treasured in your memories forever.
